PMP'ing your TV - Media options for your viewing pleasure

Playing media on the big screen.

You have options in watching downloaded media on devices other than your portable media player (iphones, ipod, blackberrys and other PMPs), or your computer's monitor. Some options cost more than others. Some require more effort, some less.

Apple TV - For the die hard Apple fan, this device is for them, I feel that you're buying style more than function in the Apple TV. Apple TV only supports the MP4 AAC Video files. If you want to load your AVI,Dix,xVid,DVD content to the device, then you'll be converting your media to the supported format. Cost starts at $229.

Xbox 360 video streaming. Now if you want to keep you're video files located on you're computer and stream them wirelessly to your tv. Using the Xbox media streaming option is for you. You'll need a xbox 360 wireless adapter or you'll have to connect your pc or laptop via a network cable. Cost 1 xbox, 1 pc with media center, 1 cable or 1 wireless adapter (approx $90-$99)

Burning media files to a DVD as data files, and playing them back on a DIVx DVD player is actual probably the lowest cost option. Considering that you probably already own a DVD burner, you'll just have to fork out $50-60 for a cheap Divx player.

Now the forth option, it's becoming an extremley hot market, the Hard Drive Personal Media Players. Ok! so it's like the Apple TV..... except, you can play almost every video file format! You can buy a unit that has a hard drive already in it or an enclosure and hook up any SATA drive you have sitting around. That means any files like ones on Graboid can be loaded onto the hard-drive with no conversions.
